Dementia System

The L672 Dementia Care Unit

The Intercall Dementia Care Unit has specifically been developed to provide non-intrusive help for residents who may need assistance when they are confused. Although primarily used during the night, the L672 can provide 24-hour monitoring of patients without the need for constant intervention from your staff. It enables you to select a movement profile which is considered to be ‘normal’ for a particular resident.

By controlling the lighting in the bedroom and en suite WC areas, the L672 helps guide a confused resident to the bathroom and back to bed without the need for staff to be in the room. If at any time the resident’s movements do not conform to a pre-programmed ‘normal’ behaviour pattern, an alarm is automatically raised to alert your staff through the Nursecall system. In addition, the unit can be configured to monitor bedroom and patio doors to alert staff immediately if the resident leaves the bedroom.

Simple, reliable monitoring of confused patients

Constant monitoring of dementia patients has long been a problem for the care profession.
How do you make sure they are safe and secure – even at night when staffing levels may be low?

Dementia Care Unit

Normally located outside the bedroom, the L672 Dementia Care Unit gives constant visual indication of the status of movement in the room and/or operation of the door(s).
The LCD display makes it easy to select the desired movement profile for the resident and shows
the cause of any alarm activation.

Movement Sensor

The high level mounted PIR units monitor the movement of the resident within the bedroom and bathroom areas and send all movement data back to the Dementia Care Unit for analysis or to trigger an alarm.

Bed Monitor

The Bed Monitor device is located on the mattress on the resident’s bed to activate the Dementia Care Unit when the resident gets out of bed. It is designed to be wiped clean and should be replaced periodically in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Light Controller

The Light Controller is generally located above the ceiling or in an electrical cupboard outside the room. The unit controls the bedroom and en suite lights and switches them to ‘soft start’ to guide the resident to their location and then to ‘soft switch’ from one light to another to guide the resident back. All the light controls are determined by the resident movement profile which is pre-selected on the Dementia Control Unit.

Door Contact

The Dementia Care Unit can be configured to monitor the resident’s bedroom, bathroom and patio doors and raise an alarm immediately the resident leaves the room. To activate the unit, doors are fitted with an unobtrusive switch device to detect when the door is opened.

Recording Activity

All resident activity can be monitored and recorded using the Intercall Call Management software. This allows resident movement to be analysed and the profile altered to suit each individual patient, or as the movement patterns change.
